1. What are the steps after scheduling my colonoscopy?​

We will email you confirmation, which includes all preparation and arrival instructions

2. What do I need to do to prepare for my procedure?

All detailed instructions will be emailed to you

We recommend changing your diet during the 3 days prior to the procedure to optimize the effectiveness of the preparation. During the 24 hours prior to the procedure, you will drink clear liquids only. During the evening before and morning of the procedure, you will take the preparation to clean out your colon.
3. What will my experience be like on the day of my procedure?

You will arrive 1 hour prior to your procedure time, and an IV will be placed by experienced nurses for hydration.
4. Will I be asleep for my procedure?

Yes, you will receive IV sedation so that you are sleepy and comfortable for your procedure. Most patients do not remember their procedure.

This means you need a ride home and cannot drive for the rest of the day.
5. What if polyps are found during my procedure?

They will generally be removed on the day of the procedure with rare exceptions.
6. What happens after my procedure?
-
You will be sleepy for most of the day after the procedure and will likely rest at home and eat light foods. The following day, you can resume normal diet and activities.

Dr. Shah will email you high-resolution digital copies of your procedure report (and biopsy/pathology report if applicable) and any recommendations based on the findings. He will also send all reports to your primary care provider.
7. What happens if there is something concerning or unexpected found during my procedure?

Dr. Shah will arrange for all appropriate follow-up and referrals that are needed to address the issue.​​
8. What is the Endocuff Device? Is this available to me?

The Endocuff Device is an optional device that attaches to the camera which improves visualization and detection of polyps. It is available for a small additional fee after scheduling your colonoscopy.
9. What is my cost?

Dr. Shah's office will bill your insurance, and any associated copay, coinsurance, or deductible will be collected from the patient.

Other entities such as facility, anesthesiologist, pathologist, etc., will bill insurance as per usual and may also have an associated copay, coinsurance, or deductible payment.
