About the

tif procedure

The TIF procedure (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication) is a minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of GERD.

Dr. Shah was the first community gastroenterologist in Orange County, CA to perform the Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication procedure in 2018

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • A surgeon or gastroenterologist uses the EsophyX device to reconstruct the valve between the esophagus and the stomach to restore the body's natural anatomy that protects against acid reflux.

  • The device is performed through the patient's mouth, resulting in less risk and reduced recovery time

  • TIF is usually done in combination with a laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair; the combined procedure is called cTIF (concomitant transoral incisionless fundoplication)

BENEFITS OF THE TIF PROCEDURE:

  • Minimally invasive approach through the mouth

  • Faster recovery, as there is internal or external cutting of the natural anatomy

  • Fewer long term complications and side effects compared to conventional anti-reflux procedures

  • Up to 95% of patients are able to come off medical therapies such as proton pump inhibitors (Prilosec, Nexium, Protonix, Dexilant, etc)
